Selecting Your Internet Business Product

Finding an internet business product to sell online isn’t that difficult, but it does take a little time and effort, for which you’ll be rewarded in the long run.

Here’s the process, in a nutshell.

First, you’ll need to find a market for which there is good demand, and hopefully relatively little supply. Making that determination is fairly straight forward, but it takes a little work. You really want to think in terms of minimizing competition for your business by focusing on finding a niche internet business product.

If you’re totally at a loss for a product, you can check Wordtracker to see a list of the most popular search terms in the recent past. Scan the list and brainstorm a few products you think might be of interest to the people who are doing some of those high volume searches.

To automatically keep up on the latest trends, many internet marketing professionals subscribe to the Wordtracker service, which keeps them informed on the latest changes in search trends.

Another good way to find hot-selling and/or interesting product ideas is to browse eBay to see what is selling well over there, or
check out the top sellers on Amazon in your niche. Finally, you can
browse a few magazines in your niche and look at the largest ads, since a large ad budget probably means the product sells well.

You can also join Commission Junction for free, and then do a search for products, paying close attention to which have the best “conversion ratio” (sales or dollars paid per 100 clicks … CJ calls it “earnings per click”, or “EPC” for short).

Yet another source of information on what is selling well is to log on to the CB Mall and check out the products there. Any product you find in the mall is, by definition, in high demand, because CB Mall is designed to feature only the hottest-selling items on ClickBank.

As you develop your list of product ideas, you can then use the very handy Google Adwords keywords tools to find out how many searches are being made for a particular product or search term that you have in mind.

Or you can automate the entire process of selecting a product and develop a site by signing up for Site Buildit. The documentation leads you step-by-step through product selection, developing a traffic-attracting content site, search engine submission, and use of Pay Per Click search engines.

Once you’ve narrowed down your list of possible products to a small, select group, you’ll have to decide whether to create your own product, promote something using affiliate marketing, or develop a sales site and/or use the online auctions to sell a product that is drop-shipped.

At that point, your remaining tasks are to develop good advertising copy, design a mini-site or a sales page for your existing web site, and run some pay-per-click ads. Depending upon the niche you’ve chosen to market in, it’s always a great idea to consider starting a newsletter and/or blog for your sales site, as well. Both of these are great marketing tools that should not be overlooked!
